Implication of Alkane Carbon and Hydrogen Isotopes for Genesis and Accumulation of Over-Mature Shale Gas: A Case Study of Longmaxi Formation Shale Gas in Upper Yangtze Area

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
To clarify the implication of alkane carbon and hydrogen isotopes for the genesis and accumulation of over-mature shale gas, we carried out a comparative study on Longmaxi shale gases from eight blocks in the Upper Yangtze area. The results show that the

How Do Disks Survive Mergers?

open access: yes, 2008
We develop a physical model for how galactic disks survive and/or are destroyed in interactions. Based on dynamical arguments, we show gas primarily loses angular momentum to internal torques in a merger. Gas within some characteristic radius (a function

On the influence of environment on star forming galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We use our state-of-the-art semi analytic model for GAlaxy Evolution and Assembly (GAEA), and observational measurements of nearby galaxies to study the influence of the environment on the gas content and gaseous/stellar disc sizes of star-forming ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The dependence of bar frequency on galaxy mass, colour, and gas content - and angular resolution - in the local universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
I use distance- and mass-limited subsamples of the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S 4 G) to investigate how the presence of bars in spiral galaxies depends on mass, colour, and gas content and whether large, SDSS-based investigations of

Multi-scale pore structure characteristics and main controlling factors analysis of Longtan formation shale in Northwest Guizhou

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Marine-continental transitional shale strata are widely distributed in China and have high gas potential. The Longtan shales are a typical marine-continental transitional coal-bearing shale system in Northwest Guizhou.

Combustive approach for measuring total volatile phosphorus content in landfill gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A technique was developed to measure the total gaseous phosphorus content in biogas. The amount of air needed for a neutral to oxidising flame was mixed with the biogas.

The HI gas content of galaxies around Abell 370, a galaxy cluster at z = 0.37

open access: yes, 2009
We used observations from the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope to measure the atomic hydrogen gas content of 324 galaxies around the galaxy cluster Abell 370 at a redshift of z = 0.37 (a look-back time of ~4 billion years).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
