Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 on Au Electrocatalysts in a Zero-Gap, Half-Cell Gas Diffusion Electrode Setup: a Systematic Performance Evaluation and Comparison to a H-cell Setup

open access: yes, 2021
Based on H-cell measurements, gold (Au) is one of the most selective catalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to CO. To ensure a high dispersion, typically Au small nanoparticles (NPs) are used as catalyst.

Electro‐Steric Ion Confinement in Polyelectrolyte Networks for Robust Nonvolatile Artificial Synapse

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte stoichiometry governs ion transport and retention in electrolyte‐gated synaptic transistors. A PSS‐rich network creates electro‐steric ion confinement that suppresses ion back‐diffusion and stabilizes channel doping, enabling robust nonvolatile synaptic memory, linear weight updates, and low‐energy operation.

Ultrasmall High‐Entropy Materials: Nanoscale Effects, Synthesis, and Mechanistic Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review article focuses on sub‐10 nm high‐entropy materials that combine nanoscale design with complex compositions for next‐generation applications. ABSTRACT Ultrasmall high‐entropy nanomaterials (USHENMs, <10 nm) merge multicomponent chemistry with size‐dependent effects, forming a distinct class of materials with unprecedented properties.

Understanding the Operation of a Gas Diffusion Electrode Setup for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction: Experiment versus 3D Multiphysics Modeling

open access: yesChemElectroChem
Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) require highly efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysts. The intrinsic ORR performance of advanced ORR catalysts (measured in rotating disk electrode, RDE) is often not obtained in membrane ...

(Invited) Gas-Diffusion Electrodes for CO2 Reduction

open access: yesECS Meeting Abstracts, 2018
One of the main challenges towards achieving high-efficiency solar-fuel generators performing CO2 reduction are the mass-transport limitations in traditional aqueous systems due to CO2 interactions/solubility and boundary-layer thickness. To circumvent these issues, gas-diffusion electrodes (GDEs) are considered wherein the CO2 is fed in a vapor ...

A Dual‐Functional Electrolyte Additive for Highly Reversible Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) as a dual‐function additive for aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. TBAB disrupts the hydrogen‐bond network of water while TBA+ adsorbs on Zn to improve interfacial wettability and regulate Zn2+ flux, resulting in suppressed dendrite growth and parasitic reactions. This synergy extended the lifespan of Zn|

Avaliação da degradação do diclofenaco sódico utilizando H2O2/fenton em reator eletroquímico Evaluation of the degradation of sodium diclofenac using H2O2/fenton in electrochemical reactor

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2009
This paper describes a degradation study of the anti-inflammatory sodium diclofenac in aqueous medium using an electro-chemical flow reactor with a gas diffusion electrode as cathode. Two degradation processes were compared: by H2O2 electro-generated and

Powering Nanocrystal‐Based Heat Engines With Light‐Emitting Metasurfaces That Influence Their Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurfaces and other structured photonic environments can dramatically modify the absorption and/or light emission of semiconductors. However, the consequences of these changes on the temperature of the system are not well understood. The authors address this problem for colloidal nanocrystals and leverage their findings to convert light into ...
