Diffusion Boundary Layer in a Weakly Ionized Gas

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1974
The ambipolar diffusion boundary layer induced in a thermally ionized high pressure gas is analyzed theoretically with the isothermal assumption. The thickness of the boundary layer and the density and potential profiles are calculated analytically.

Gas Diffusion Layer with Multiscale Roughness Structure for Enhanced Durability of Gas Diffusion Electrode

Advanced Functional Materials
ABSTRACT Although current gas diffusion electrodes (GDE) meet many performance requirements for the electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (ECO 2 RR) in aqueous media, most designs focus primarily on the catalytic layer, with limited attention to the durability of the ...

Gas Diffusivity of PEM Fuel Cells Gas Diffusion Layer: Experimental Measurement and Modeling

ECS Meeting Abstracts
The rate of gas transport through the PEMFC gas diffusion layers (GDL) is a function of GDL morphology, such as thickness, porosity, fibre diameters, tortuosity, etc.. Numerical methods can capture the intricacies of the GDL pore structure. However, the results obtained are specific to the analyzed structure and cannot be generalized to other GDLs ...

Evaporation of Water from Gas Diffusion Layers

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2017
Evaporation of water from gas diffusion layers (GDL) is an important process for water management in polymer electrolyte fuel cells. At temperatures around 80 °C and locally under-saturated conditions, evaporation can have a significant impact on the GDL saturation.  However, little is known about the evaporation rates of water in gas

Durability Aspects of Gas-Diffusion and Microporous Layers

2009
The polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) gas-diffusion layer (GDL) is the critical bridging component between the bipolar plate flow-field and elec-trocatalyst layer. It must participate in all mass-transport processes of a PEFC. These consist primarily of reactant transport and liquid-water handling – either excess water removal to prevent catalyst ...
