Partial discharge in Gas Insulated substations (GIS): A development and engineering perspective
2013 12th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, 2013GIS and its allied subsystems are always expected to function and work with extremely high level of reliability. These substations contain several dielectric interfaces and combinational insulating medias. The GIS may be subject to Partial discharge activity may initiate in some conditions in the GIS modules considering its varied operating conditions ...

Comparison Between Suppressing Approaches of Very Fast Transients in Gas-Insulated Substations (GIS)
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2013In this paper, first transient waves in the gas-insulated substation (GIS) are analyzed and methods for suppression of very fast transients (VFTs) in GISs are introduced. For suppressing VFTs, four methods are presented, including suppression by terminal components, capacitance components, adopting a resistor-fitted disconnector, and ferromagnetic ...

Reliable and economical power transmission and distribution are key functions for the future electric power supply. Gas insulated switchgear is used in industrial areas to fulfil high-energy demands by space saving design with a minimum of cost. Only SF6 insulated switchgear is able to fulfil these requirements.

Gas insulated substation (GIS) for HVDC
2000 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (Cat. No.00CH37132), 2002The paper deals with the topic of a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) optimized for HVDC. The electric field distribution of DC systems is mainly controlled by the conductivity k of the dielectric media. Surface charge accumulation leads to field distortion.

Exposure to electric and magnetic fields at 110 kV gas insulated substation (GIS)
IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition, 2003At Tampere University of Technology, the ELF electric and magnetic fields have been studied for several years. The studies have included measurements and calculations, as well as exposure assessments. In previous studies at TUT, electric and magnetic fields at 400 kV and 110 kV air insulated substations were measured.

Wavelet analysis used in UHF partial discharge detection in GIS [gas insulated substations]
POWERCON '98. 1998 International Conference on Power System Technology. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX151), 2002One of the most important subjects in monitoring GIS is PD detection. The issue is that the PD signal is weak and sensitive to external noise. In this paper, the experiments of detection PD in GIS using UHF technique is described. The results show that UHF method is effective in detecting PD in GIS and avoiding the disturbance of corona.
