Power Line Communication as a Sensor: Medium Voltage Cable Diagnostics

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This article investigates the use of broadband power line (BPL) communication as a diagnostic tool for medium‐voltage cables. Experimental results show that BPL modem parameters change in the presence of partial discharges, enabling real‐time monitoring of insulation health and supporting predictive maintenance.

A Practical Optimisation Strategy for Transmission Line Tower Spotting Considering Terrain Features

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
1. Propose a terrain‐feature‐based candidate point selection method to reduce the search space in complex terrain. 2. Develop a full‐process optimisation strategy that decouples tower spotting and tower height adjustment. 3. Validate the proposed method through a real‐world large‐scale transmission line project.

Accurate Harmonic Voltage Measurement Based on Series Resistive‐Capacitive Divider for Gas‐Insulated Switchgear

open access: yesIET Science, Measurement &Technology, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A series resistive‐capacitive divider for harmonic voltage measurement of gas‐insulated switchgear was studied. It can step down the voltage while amplifying the proportion of harmonics in the total sensed voltage, thereby increasing the significant figure for the measurement and enabling the accurate measurement of high‐order, low‐amplitude harmonics.

Application of T&D Circuit Segmentation for Improved Resilience—A Texas Case Study

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
ABSTRACT Several lessons were learned from the post‐analysis of 2021 Winter Storm Uri's devastating impact on Texas's electricity grids. Among the lessons was the need for greater granularity and flexibility in how Texas electricity utilities shed load during emergencies, as directed by the local Independent System Operator (ISO), while protecting ...
