Corrosion protection for gas-insulated transmission lines

IEEE Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting,, 2003
For buried gas insulated transmission lines (GILs), a coating against corrosion is absolutely necessary and similar to most other directly buried metallic installations. Active corrosion protection, also called catholic protection, may be added to take care about possible failures of the coating as an additional quality insurance system to the passive ...

Development of a Compressed-Gas-Insulated Transmission Line

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1971
Development of Compressed-Gas-Insulated transmission lines for voltages of 138 to 500 kV is described. Design, manufacture and installation are presented. Dielectric and mechanical tests data are given. A 230 kV single-phase outdoor test line of 230-ft length has been installed and voltage and current tests have been initiated.

Advanced Dielectrics for Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines [Editorial]

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2018
High voltage alternating current (HVAC) gas-insulated transmission lines (GILs) have been successfully used as an alternative solution to overhead lines and cables for more than 40 years. GIL can be laid directly buried, in a passable or non-passable tunnel or on a gantry. GIL solutions offer different advantages, such as high current-carrying capacity,

Operating Parameters of Compressed-Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1969
This paper describes a method to choose the physical parameters of a compressed-gas-insulated cable. A calculation of the power rating, losses, and critical length is carried out based on the physical parameters. This calculation is then compared with the ratings of pipe-type cable and is shown to be superior particularly for high-voltage, high-power ...

AC Compact High Power Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines

2018 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition (T&D), 2018
The AC Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines (GIL) technology for high power underground transmission shows an ever-increasing usage worldwide. Today, the AC GIL transmission technology is entering densely populated areas where the desire for solutions of non-visible transmission lines is high.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1986
This paper reports on an investigation of the heat transfer characteristics of GILs under constant temperatures and under changing temperatures influenced by solar radiation and wind. It was verified that values calculated by our heat transfer formulas coincided well with measured values both for current-induced temperature rise of the conductor and ...

Underground links by gas insulated transmission lines

APSCOM 2000 - 5th International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management, 2000
The concern to reduce the number of increasingly contested power transmission lines has led utilities and manufacturers as ALSTOM to search for new underground solutions. Today, the penetration of power lines into the heart of large cities is seriously hindered by the density of population and urban expansion.

Basic properties of hybrid gas‐insulated transmission lines (H‐GIL)

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1997
The recent trend in electric power consumption shows a steady increase and concentration in large cities and industrial districts. This indicates a strong need for a long-distance and enclosed-type power transmission line with large capacity and high reliability.

Gas insulated transmission lines for high power transmission over long distances

Electric Power Systems Research, 1998
The gas insulated transmission line (GIL) is a technology developed for the needs of the 21st century, where huge metropolitan areas need an electrical supply for the public and industry. Natural resources of energy are often far away from metropolitan areas.

Analysis on Common Faults of Gas Insulated Transmission Line

2020 4th International Conference on HVDC (HVDC), 2020
Gas-insulated metal-enclosed transmission line (GIL) is a new type of transmission equipment, which can be used to connect overhead line, GIS, transformers and switchgear in power plants. With the development of UHV transmission projects in China, the amount of GIL projects is increasing year by year, while its faults have been paid more attentions by ...
