Gas insulated transmission lines for high power transmission over long distances
Electric Power Systems Research, 1998The gas insulated transmission line (GIL) is a technology developed for the needs of the 21st century, where huge metropolitan areas need an electrical supply for the public and industry. Natural resources of energy are often far away from metropolitan areas.

Gas insulated transmission lines in railway galleries
2003 IEEE Bologna Power Tech Conference Proceedings,, 2004This paper deals with the possibility of installing a double-circuit gas insulated transmission line (GIL) in the pilot tunnel of the planned new railway galleries Bolzano (Italy)- Innsbruck (Austria). This EHV transmission line could represent a new fundamental step in reconstructing the transnational networks. The high GIL power ratings together with

Development of a Compressed-Gas-Insulated Transmission Line
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1971Development of Compressed-Gas-Insulated transmission lines for voltages of 138 to 500 kV is described. Design, manufacture and installation are presented. Dielectric and mechanical tests data are given. A 230 kV single-phase outdoor test line of 230-ft length has been installed and voltage and current tests have been initiated.

Insulation Design of Superconducting Gas Insulated Transmission Line
2020To improve the insulation performance of superconducting gas insulated transmission line (S-GIL), this chapter puts forward the two E-field regulating methods: E-field adaptive insulator and surface functional graded material (SFGM) insulator. The two simulation models of insulator in S-GIL are completed for optimize the E-field distribution of ...

Gas insulated transmission lines - GIL
2008 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition, 2004The GIL is a transmission system for the transmission of high power levels over long distances, to solve specific routing or access problems, or as connections in power plants and substations. As a gas-insulated system, the GIL has the advantage of having electrical behavior similar to an overhead line. This is of importance to system operation.

Corrosion protection for gas-insulated transmission lines
IEEE Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting,, 2003For buried gas insulated transmission lines (GILs), a coating against corrosion is absolutely necessary and similar to most other directly buried metallic installations. Active corrosion protection, also called catholic protection, may be added to take care about possible failures of the coating as an additional quality insurance system to the passive ...

Insulation co-ordination for gas-insulated transmission lines (GIL)
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2001For the transmission of high power over long distances underground the gas-insulated transmission lines (GIL) are a good technical solution as an alternative to an overhead line and in addition to cables. The GIL has two main advantages: low resistive losses because of large cross section of the conductor and enclosure and low capacitive load because ...

Analysis on Common Faults of Gas Insulated Transmission Line
2020 4th International Conference on HVDC (HVDC), 2020Gas-insulated metal-enclosed transmission line (GIL) is a new type of transmission equipment, which can be used to connect overhead line, GIS, transformers and switchgear in power plants. With the development of UHV transmission projects in China, the amount of GIL projects is increasing year by year, while its faults have been paid more attentions by ...

Discussion of "Insulation coordination for gas-insulated transmission lines (GIL)" and closure
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2001A. Sabot comments on the paper by O. Volvker et al. (see ibid., vol.16, no.1, p.122-30, 2001). The author discusses three points: reference to the IEC standard 60071-2, the overvoltage calculations, and the GIL withstand voltage.

Underground links by gas insulated transmission lines
APSCOM 2000 - 5th International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management, 2000The concern to reduce the number of increasingly contested power transmission lines has led utilities and manufacturers as ALSTOM to search for new underground solutions. Today, the penetration of power lines into the heart of large cities is seriously hindered by the density of population and urban expansion.
