Study of the arc voltage in gas metal arc welding

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2018
Abstract In this paper, the voltage drop in pulsed gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is studied, focussing on the contributions of the different sections of wire and arc along the current path and their dependence on arc length and current.

Gas-Metal Arc Welding

1993
Abstract Gas-metal arc welding (GMAW) is an arc welding process that joins metals together by heating them with an electric arc that is established between a consumable electrode (wire) and a workpiece. This article discusses the advantages and limitations, operating principle, metal transfer mechanisms, and process variables of the GMAW

Metal transfer process and properties of double-wire double pulsed gas metal arc welding

Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2019
Metal transfer processes during double-wire double pulsed gas metal arc welding (DP-GMAW) were observed in both the double pulse synchronous (DPS) and double pulse alternating (DPA) phases using a high-speed digital camera.

Droplet Observer for Pulsed Gas Metal Arc Welding

2018 European Control Conference (ECC), 2018
In this paper an observer for detecting droplet detachment/no-detachment for a pulsed gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is developed. The observer is based on simple calculations made on the measured welding apparatus voltage. Two phenomena are used in the observer, one is the shape of the voltage in a limited time interval and the other is detection of a ...

Control of gas metal arc welding by an extended DMC

2012 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications, 2012
Efficient control of gas metal arc welding process enables us to have high quality products in consequence of achieving high quality weld. In this paper, an extended dynamic matrix controller is designed and applied on the gas metal arc welding process, which is considered as a nonlinear multi-inputs multi-outputs system.

Metal transfer measurements in gas metal arc welding

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2001
The present work reports results obtained using combined laser shadowing and cross correlation techniques to investigate the metal transfer process. Experimental results of the droplet size and velocity of 0.9 mm and 1.2 mm wires from the globular region to the spray transfer region are presented.

Advancements in pulse gas metal arc welding

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005
Environmental concerns have driven manufactures to look for alternative materials like aluminium that are lighter in weight and possess good thermal and electrical conductivity. However, fabrication of alternative materials presents a considerable challenge for fabrication in volume production.

Advanced gas metal arc welding processes

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2012
There is an increased requirement in the automotive, food and medical equipment industries to weld heat-sensitive materials, such as thin sheets, coated thin plates, stainless steel, aluminium and mixed joints. Nevertheless, relevant innovations in arc welding are not widely known and seldom used to their maximum potential. In the area of gas metal arc
