Numerical simulation of welding positions in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
The fluid flow in weld pool can play a prominent role in the weld quality as well as in the shape of the weld bead seam. It is influenced by several process parameters and operating conditions such as current intensity, welding speed, chemical composition of the material and welding positions.

Visualization of gas tungsten arc weld pools.
Surface flow visualization of Gas Tungsten Arc weld pools for HY-80 steel is presented using a pulsed laser light source and a conventional night-vision image-intensif ier tube equipped video camera. Visualization of the weld pool free surface is made possible by seeding the flow with alumina particles for both stationary and moving arc welds.
