Montaigne compare les parlers de son « quartier » de Guyenne à ceux des pays voisins : angoumoisin, limousin, etc. Seul lui plaît, pour sa virilité, le parler des montagnes, plus au sud. Ancrage régional, malgré tout, d’un écrivain qui dit n’être français que par son amour de Paris où cependant on le considère comme gascon jusque dans ses écrits.
