Long-term effectiveness eight years after gastric banding operation

open access: yes, 2007

Dual‐Module Near‐Infrared Fluorophores Discovery System via Knowledge Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a dual‐module deep learning system for the design of near‐infrared (NIR) fluorophores. A large molecular library is generated and analyzed, leading to the suggestions of promising candidates. The effectiveness of the system is further validated through the synthesis, characterization, and in vivo imaging, demonstrating its potential

Complicação da banda gástrica ajustável videolaparoscópica para tratamento da obesidade mórbida: extrusão da banda

open access: yesRevista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões
Various options for surgical treatment of morbid obesity have been developed with varying results: vertical banded gastroplasty with intestinal by-pass, disabsorptive surgeries and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding.

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric band [PDF]

open access: yesSurgical Clinics of North America, 2005
Only a fraction of morbidly obese patients have come forward for bariatric surgery. This article confirms that the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB) is a safe, effective, primary weight-loss operation for morbidly obese patients. The LAGB offers a simple, genuinely minimally invasive approach, with the potential to be attractive to many more ...

Weight Loss After Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding is not Caused by Altered Gastric Emptying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In order to know the role of gastric emptying in the mechanism of weight loss and early satiety after a restrictive surgical procedure for treatment of morbid obesity, a consecutive series of patients were scintigraphically investigated before and after ...

Targeting GALNT7 Disrupts the TAZ O‐GalNAcylation Feedback Loop to Suppress Gallbladder Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Aberrant GALNT7‐mediated O‐GalNAcylation stabilizes TAZ to drive gallbladder cancer progression through a feed‐forward transcriptional loop. Structure‐based screening identifies Olaparib as a potent GALNT7 antagonist that disrupts this oncogenic axis, providing an immediate therapeutic strategy for this aggressive malignancy.

Gastric Banding – to Band or Bypass [PDF]

open access: yesThe Annals of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, 2008
Whether to band or bypass is a controversial question and these two articles are timely. Interestingly, a ‘band all’ advocacy rarely comes from a bariatric surgeon who has ascended the difficult learning of laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. In other words, based on their experience, there is little doubt in their minds that bypass surgery has better

Pseudoachalasia and Laparoscopic Gastric Banding [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Gastroenterology, 2011
The incidence of obesity in Western countries has dramatically increased along with its associated co-morbidities (type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer…) and diminished life expectancy 1. Attempts at controlling this with diet have proven relatively ineffective.

Mechanical Flexibility Enables DNA Origami to Overcome Steric Confinement in Mucus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical flexibility is introduced as a design parameter to enhance nanocarrier transport in mucus. Using DNA origami, flexibility is decoupled from size, shap and surface chemistry, revealing improved passage through confined hydrogel networks. While surface passivation reduces aggregation, flexibility further boosts transport, offering a general ...
