Management of gastroenteritis. [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 1990
Childhood gastroenteritis remains a common reason for admission to British paediatric units, although the severity of the disease appears to be diminishing in recent years. We studied 215 infants and children with gastroenteritis admitted consecutively to four paediatric units in South Wales in order to determine the severity of the disease, the ...

Periodically stationary multivariate autoregressive models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
A class of multivariate periodic autoregressive models is proposed where coupling between time series is achieved through linear mean functions. Various response distributions with quadratic mean-variance relationships fit into the framework, including the negative binomial, gamma and Gaussian distributions.

Term infant formula macronutrient composition: An update for clinicians

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Protein, carbohydrates, and fats comprise the macronutrient components of infant formulas. While all infant formulas in the United States meet specific nutrition standards, the macronutrient composition of formulas is diverse. Each macronutrient in the formula may play a role in treating or managing the disease.

Impact of Rotavirus Vaccination on Hospitalizations and Deaths From Childhood Gastroenteritis in Botswana.

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2016
BACKGROUND A monovalent human rotavirus vaccine (RV1) was introduced in Botswana in July 2012. We assessed the impact of RV1 vaccination on childhood gastroenteritis-related hospitalizations and deaths in 2013 and 2014.

Endemic-epidemic models with discrete-time serial interval distributions for infectious disease prediction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Multivariate count time series models are an important tool for the analysis and prediction of infectious disease spread. We consider the endemic-epidemic framework, an autoregressive model class for infectious disease surveillance counts, and replace the default autoregression on counts from the previous time period with more flexible weighting ...

Chronic atrial and intestinal dysrhythmia: A rare genetic disorder of intestinal pseudo‐obstruction

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Pediatric intestinal pseudo‐obstruction (PIPO) is a rare and severe disorder of gastrointestinal (GI) motility; patients with PIPO display signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction in the absence of occluding lesions. Chronic atrial and intestinal dysrhythmia (CAID) syndrome is an exceedingly rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by ...

Refeeding syndrome and rumination in a pediatric patient: A case report reflecting an underdiagnosed pediatric emergency

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Refeeding syndrome (RS) is a potentially life‐threatening acute metabolic deterioration, affecting malnourished individuals. Although it is a well described condition, the evidence in pediatric population is limited. Herein, we describe a case of a 7‐year‐old patient with rumination syndrome and developmental delay, complicated with RS during ...
