Integumentary fibrosarcoma in a free‐living swan (Cygnus olor): Medical and welfare considerations

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract A 10‐kg adult male mute swan (Cygnus olor) of unknown age was admitted for investigations of two large ventral masses overlying the keel bone, which were discharging purulent material. The masses measured 8.9 × 2.1 cm and 4.2 × 3.2 cm. Empirical treatment with non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs and antimicrobials was instigated.

Real‐World Performance of FIT Triage for Symptomatic Colonoscopy: Analysis of the UK National Endoscopy Database (NED)

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 63, Issue 9, Page 1297-1305, May 2026.
National endoscopy data show that FIT‐based triage clearly outperforms symptom‐based referral for colorectal cancer risk stratification. FIT ≥ 10 identifies high‐risk symptomatic patients, while FIT < 10 confers very low cancer risk, supporting FIT as the primary tool for prioritising colonoscopy in symptomatic pathways.

Enhanced Moisture‐Focused, Nurse‐Led Oral Care Improves Oral Health and Suppresses Bacterial Overgrowth in Mechanically Ventilated ICU Patients: A Quasi‐Experimental Study

open access: yesNursing in Critical Care, Volume 31, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background In Japan, no standardised, evidence‐based oral care protocol independent of chlorhexidine (CHX) exists, despite its importance in preventing ventilator‐associated pneumonia (VAP) and post‐extubation dysphagia (PED) among mechanically ventilated patients.

Accuracy of Bedside Methods for Preliminary Nasoenteric Tube Tip Localization in Intensive Care: A Prospective Diagnostic Study

open access: yesNursing in Critical Care, Volume 31, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Postpyloric nasoenteric feeding reduces feeding intolerance and is recommended for critically ill patients. However, reliable confirmation of tip location remains challenging. Although radiography is the pre‐feeding gold standard, repeated use of radiography during insertion is impractical in resource‐limited intensive care units ...
