A statistical mixture method to reveal bottom-up and top-down factors guiding the eye-movements

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research, 2010
When people gaze at real scenes, their visual attention is driven both by a set of bottom-up processes coming from the signal properties of the scene and also from top-down effects such as the task, the affective state, prior knowledge, or the semantic ...

Interrogating Democracy in the Digital Gaze [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
I first started to explore the digital gaze in late 2014 through a video project that later expanded into 7 x 2D large photographic images in 2019. This Multi-Piece Portfolio project explores the digital gaze, questions the democracy of Google, and ...

Biallelic PIGB Variants Cause Motor Neuropathy with Conduction Blocks and Peripheral Nerve Hyperexcitability

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchored proteins play critical roles in nervous system function. Pathogenic variants in genes involved in GPI‐anchor biosynthesis cause early‐onset multisystem disorders known as inherited GPI deficiencies. We describe a novel neuromuscular phenotype associated with PIGB deficiency.

Mobile robot teleoperation through eye-gaze (telegaze) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In most teleoperation applications the human operator is required to monitor the status of the robot, as well as, issue controlling commands for the whole duration of the operation.

A system for gaze-contingent image analysis and multi-sensorial image display [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A novel system for gaze-contingent image analysis and multisensorial image display is described. The observer's scanpaths are recorded while viewing and analysing 2D or 3D (volumetric) images.

Comparative cranial biomechanics reveal macroevolutionary trends in theropod dinosaurs, with emphasis on Tyrannosauroidea

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Tyrannosaurus is viewed as a model organism in vertebrate paleontology, with numerous studies analyzing its feeding biomechanics. Nonetheless, the evolution of this feeding performance has been under‐addressed in Tyrannosauroidea, especially in basal tyrannosauroids. Here we used muscle‐force reconstruction and finite element analysis (FEA) to

Exceptional preservation informs the paleobiology of tapinocephalid dinocephalians

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The tapinocephalid dinocephalian Moschops is one of the most iconic taxa of the middle Permian, yet its paleobiology remains one of the least well‐known. Here, we address some aspects of paleoneurology and paleobiology of Moschops using CT scanning of four well preserved skulls from the upper Abrahamskraal Formation of South Africa. Two of the

Evaluating discrepancies between high‐yield neuroscience conditions in preclerkship medical education and national clinical incidence

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Medical education must balance foundational science with clinical relevance. Increasing emphasis on standardized assessments has led to prioritization of “high‐yield” conditions—those most likely to be assessed. Subsequently, educators and students often prioritize these conditions.

How Do we Detect One's Eye Movements

open access: yesi-Perception, 2011
When we see someone in the front of us, how we get information from his (her) eyes? To understand how we pay attention to one's eye movements and when we notice the eye movements, we investigated the detection of eye movements.

Ritualized reflection in human dissection: Liminality, ethical negotiation, and professional identity formation among South Korean medical students

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Human dissection is a foundational component of medical education, yet it places students in profound ethical tension between scientific objectification and respect for human dignity. While prior studies have documented students' emotional responses, the structural transformation of their moral narratives over time, particularly within non ...
