Des migrants et des arbres : impact de la population sur la durabilité de l'écosystème Sud Ouest du Burkina Faso : cas de Torokoro [PDF]

Variations in Hawaiian Plume Flux Controlled by Ancient Mantle Depletion

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Mantle plumes—upwellings of buoyant rock in Earth's mantle—feed hotspot volcanoes such as Hawai‘i. The size of volcanoes along the Hawai‘i–Emperor chain, and thus the magma flux of the Hawaiian plume, has varied over the past 85 million years. Fifteen and two million years ago, rapid bursts in magmatic production led to the emergence of large ...

Evidence for Lithospheric Mantle Uniformity Beneath Cratons

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Cratons are characterized by thick mantle roots that have experienced high degrees of partial melting, resulting in a cold, strong, and buoyant mantle compared to its oceanic counterpart. The extent of chemical variability within cratonic roots, the role of cratons in insulating the mantle over time and subsequent triggering of continental ...

Why Are Plume Excess Temperatures Much Less Than the Temperature Drop Across the Lowermost‐Mantle Thermal Boundary Layer?

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract While temperature drop across the mantle's basal thermal boundary layer (TBL) is likely > ${ >} $1,000 K, the temperature anomaly of plumes believed to rise from that TBL is only up to a few hundred Kelvins. Reasons for that discrepancy are still poorly understood and a number of causes have been proposed.
