Offshore Record of Explosive Volcanic Eruptions in the Southern Part of the Panamá Basin During the Past 10 Myr: 2. Inferences About the Construction of the Northern Andean Arc and Regional Geodynamics

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract Volcanic material preserved in marine and lacustrine sediments is a key high‐resolution archive for studying the past eruptive history of volcanic regions. In this work, we use the geochemical and isotopic compositions of marine volcanic glass shards, the thicknesses, and age models of tephra layers preserved in the deep sediments of the ...

Thermomechanical Analysis of the Louisville Seamount Chain: Implications for Late Cretaceous Pacific Plate Evolution

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract We calculated elastic thickness (Te), flexural deflection, and gravity anomalies of the oceanic lithosphere beneath 14 seamounts of the Louisville Seamount Chain to investigate seamount formation timing and tectonic settings. Using dense core modeling to approximate seamount mass, we compared Te estimates with plate age at loading time.

Composition and Plume Gas Interaction Control Iron Fractional Solubility More Than Particle Size in Volcanic Ash: Implications for Fertilization of the North Atlantic

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Deposition of volcanic ash is thought to impact marine biogeochemical cycling by adding soluble iron (Fe) to the surface ocean. The magnitude of this input is a function of the amount of ash deposited, the total Fe content in the ash, and ash‐derived Fe's fractional solubility.

Temporal Variations of the Oldest Emperor‐Hawaiian Plume Signature Influenced by Interaction With Shallow Mantle Features

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract Hawaiian volcanoes <∼7 Ma are believed to originate from two different portions of the deep mantle: Loa‐trend volcanoes originate from within the Pacific Large Low Shear Velocity Province (LLSVP), whereas Kea‐trend volcanoes tap ambient mantle adjacent to the LLSVP.
