Implications of Vector Boson Scattering Unitarity in Composite Higgs Models

open access: yes, 2017
The strong nature of Composite Higgs models manifests at high energies through the growing behavior of the scattering amplitudes of longitudinally polarized weak bosons that leads to the formation of composite resonances as well as non-resonant strong ...

Vacuum alignment and radiatively induced Fermi scale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We extend the discussion about vacuum misalignment by quantum corrections in models with composite pseudo-Goldstone Higgs boson to renormalisable models with elementary scalars.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Dimerized phase and transitions in a spatially anisotropic square lattice antiferromagnet

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate the spatially anisotropic square lattice quantum antiferromagnet. The model describes isotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains (exchange constant J) coupled antiferromagnetically in the transverse (J_\perp) and diagonal (J_\times), with ...

10 Gb/s operation of photonic crystal silicon optical modulators

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We report the first experimental demonstration of 10 Gb/s modulation in a photonic crystal silicon optical modulator. The device consists of a 200 μm-long SiO2-clad photonic crystal waveguide, with an embedded p-n junction, incorporated into an asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Higgs physics beyond the SM: the non-linear EFT approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Depending on whether electroweak physics beyond the Standard Model is based on a linear or on a non-linear implementation of the electroweak symmetry breaking, a linear or a chiral Effective Lagrangian is more appropriate.

The photoswitchable cannabinoid azo‐HU308 enables optical control of Ca2+ dynamics in INS‐1 β‐cells via off‐target effects on TRPC channels

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Light activation of the photoswitchable cannabinoid ligand azo‐HU308 triggers Ca2+ influx in pancreatic β‐cells through TRPC channels, independent of CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This reveals a non‐GPCR pathway for cannabinoid modulation of β‐cell Ca2+ dynamics and establishes azo‐HU308 as an optical tool to study cannabinoid signaling through TRP ...

Chiral symmetry breaking and electromagnetic structure of the nucleon

open access: yes, 2010
The electromagnetic form factors are the most fundamental quantities to describe the internal structure of the nucleon and are related to the charge radii of the baryons.
