An improved GC-ECD method for measuring atmospheric N2O

Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2013
Gas chromatography equipped with an electron capture detector (GC-ECD) has been widely used for measuring atmospheric N2O, but nonlinear response and the influence of atmospheric CO2 have been recognized as defects for quantification. An original GC-ECD method using N2 as carrier gas was improved by introducing a small flow rate of CO2 makeup gas into ...

Removal of sulfur interfering in the analysis of organochlorines by GC-ECD

The Analyst, 1999
Elemental sulfur is frequently formed by microbial activities in terrestrial and aquatic systems under anoxic conditions. This is indicated with high sensitivity by the electron capture detector (ECD) and can render determining higher boiling organochlorines by gas chromatography using an ECD impossible. Three methods for removing sulfur were compared:

Precise Measurement of Atmospheric Concentration of CH3Br by GC/ECD

Chemistry Letters, 1997
Abstract A precise measurement system of atmospheric CH3Br at background concentration level was developed for the survey of its spatial and temporal distribution by gas chromatographic separation with dual Porapak Q columns and detection with an electron capture detector.

Identification and quantification of organochlorine pesticides by GC-ECD in environmental matrices

Global NEST International Conference on Environmental Science & Technology, 2023
An analytical method for the determination of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) (α-HCH, β-HCH, γ-HCH (Lindane), δ-HCH, Aldrin, Dieldrin, Endrin, DDT, DDD, DDE, Heptachlor, Chlordane, Endosulfan I and Endosulfan II) in environmental samples (wastewater, soil) uses liquid phase extraction and gas chromatography with electron capture detector (GC-ECD ...

Analysis of Anatoxin-a by GCIECD*

Journal of Analytical Toxicology, 1988
Anatoxin-a (ANTX-a), a potent cholinergic alkaloid produced by some toxigenic strains of the cyanobacterium Anabaena flos-aquae, has been responsible for death of livestock, pets, and wildlife. An increase in the frequency of cyanobacterial blooms in fresh waters of temperate North America has produced a concomitant increase in the threat posed by ...

Study of organohalogen contaminants in yogurt by NAA and GC-ECD

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2007
The concentrations and distributions of total halogen (TX), extractable organohalogen (EOX) and extractable persistent organohalogen (EPOX) were determined in 20 kinds of yogurt specimens collected from Chinese supermarkets using neutron activation analysis (NAA) and gas chromatography equipped with a 63Ni electron capture detector (GC-ECD).

Incidence of Deoxynivalenol in Wheat Flour in Argentina and GC–ECD Method Validation

Journal of AOAC International, 2019
Background: Deoxynivalenol (DON) is a mycotoxin produced mainly by Fusarium graminearum. This fungus is the main plant pathogen associated with Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) wheat disease, causing significant economic losses and exposing human population to severe health risks. DON production changes widely among different years and areas and its effects

Sensitive GC/ECD analysis of selected PAHa by bromination

Toxicological & Environmental Chemistry, 1991
A method for determination PAH's using GC‐ECD after derivatisation with bromine is presented. ECD is highly selective and sensitive for measuring bromo‐PAH's. The detection limits were improved up to two to three orders of magnitude compared with FID‐detection of underivatised PAH's.

Validation of a novel derivatization method for GC–ECD determination of acrylamide in food

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2013
This paper proposes a new method for quantitative analysis of acrylamide in cereal-based foods and potato chips. The method uses reaction with trifluoroacetic anhydride, and analyses the resulting derivative by use of gas chromatography with electron-capture detection (GC-ECD).
