Principles of gel chromatography

Abstract The principles of gel chromatography have been examined with regard to general chromatographic theory. It is shown that the elution volume for a solute is solely determined by the partition of a solute between the mobile and stationary phases and that various forms of diffusion only contribute to the width of the peak eluted.

Bacteriophage purification by gel chromatography

Gel chromatography of sunflower proteins

The salt-extractable proteins in sunflower flour were characterized by gel chromatography, disk electrophoresis, and amino acid composition. The proteins from Commander, Majak, and Valley sunflower and a soybean control were 69-70% dispersible in 2.5% neutral salt solution.

Determination of the structure of agarose gels by gel chromatography

Abstract Well-characterized fractions of the synthetic polysaccharide Ficoll have been chromatographed on columns of pearl-condensed agarose gels of concentrations between 2 and 8%. The results agree with the theory that the Ficoll is sterically excluded from the gel, which is made up of a random three-dimensional network of long fibers.
