Management strategies for the control of Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) damage in open-field cultivations of processing tomato in Tuscany (Italy). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Since its recent introduction into the Mediterranean area, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) has become widespread and an important pest throughout the region, including in Tuscany, where it was first recorded in 2009.

Decoding Phthorimaea operculella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in the new age of change

open access: yes, 2020
Arthropods and pathogens constantly challenge potato Solanum tuberosum L. production. Scenarios of climate variation have increased the possibility of changes in pests' biological and ecological patterns by increasing or reducing overwintering length ...

Botanical extracts against the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller 1873) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), during storage conditions

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2020
The potato tuber moth (PTM), Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller 1873) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), is a destructive pest of stored potatoes and potato crop. Biopesticides are certain types of pesticides derived from animals, plants, and bacteria.

Integrating Sanger and next‐generation sequencing data sheds light on phylogenetic relationships among gelechioid moths (Lepidoptera: Gelechioidea)

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
The maximum‐likelihood analysis of a phylogenomic dataset of 1767 protein‐coding genes from 57 ingroup taxa yields a robust family‐level topology for Gelechioidea, revealing novel among‐family relationships. Integration of the phylogenomic dataset with the available taxon‐rich Sanger‐sequenced data provides insights into the monophyly of the 20 ...

Compatibility of entomopathogenic fungi and Azadirachta indica extract against the cotton pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) under controlled conditions

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2020
Compatibility of entomopathogenic fungi (EPFs) viz. Verticillium lecanii, Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana with Azadirachta indica extract (alone and in combinations) was evaluated against 2nd instar larvae of the cotton pink bollworm ...

Rhythmic biosynthesis of sex pheromone modulates the calling and mating behaviors of Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
The six‐step “morning flight–mating” behavioral sequence in Tuta absoluta is characterized by rhythmic behavior occurring from 05:30 to 08:00, with a peak from 05:30 to 06:30. This “morning flight–mating” rhythm in T. absoluta is regulated by the rhythmic release of sex pheromones.

An innovative approach to reduce chemicals in mite control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The efficacy of an innovative technique using acaricide treated nets was recently demonstrated to control phytophagous mites on vegetables. The net impregnated with the acaricide dicofol was efficient against the broad mite Polyphagotarsonemus latus ...
