Current Protocols in Molecular Biology, 1992
AbstractAgarose gel electrophoresis is a simple and highly effective method for separating, identifying, and purifying 0.5‐ to 25‐kb DNA fragments. The protocol can be divided into three stages: (1) a gel is prepared with an agarose concentration appropriate for the size of DNA fragments to be separated; (2) the DNA samples are loaded into the sample ...

In-Gel Trypsin Digest of Gel-Fractionated Proteins
Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2009INTRODUCTIONThis protocol describes a method for in-gel digestion of proteins after fractionation using SDS-PAGE. It is applicable to both one- and two-dimensional polyacrylamide gels of different thicknesses, acrylamide concentrations, and band (spot) sizes. This protocol followed by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

Sonication‐Triggered Instantaneous Gel‐to‐Gel Transformation
Chemistry – A European Journal, 2010AbstractTwo new peptide‐based isomers containing cholesterol and naphthalic groups have been designed and synthesized. We found that the position of L‐alanine in the linker could tune the gelation properties and morphologies. The molecule with the L‐alanine residue positioned in the middle of the linker (1 b) shows better gelation behavior than that ...

Homogeneity of gels and gel-derived glasses
Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1984The significance and implications of gel preparation procedures in controlling the homogeneity of multicomponent oxide gels are discussed. The role of physicochemical factors such as the structure and chemical reactivities of alkoxides, the formation of double-metal alkoxides, and the nature of solvent(s) are critically analyzed in the context of ...

The Sol-Gel Transition in Polysaccharide Gels
1972The occurrence of thermal transitions in solutions of proteins, nucleic acids and other materials of biological origin, such as collagen, has been demonstrated on many occasions, and much useful information on the behaviour of such systems has been gained from a careful study of the temperature dependence of the properties of such systems.

A Primer on Gels (with an Emphasis on Molecular Gels)
2020This chapter describes structural, kinetic, thermodynamic and viscoelastic aspects of how dispersions of small molecules (essentially 0-dimensional objects) aggregate into thermally reversible or thixotropic networks that immobilize large volumes of a liquid. When possible, the different properties of these molecular gels are correlated.

Gel Cusps and Crystal Growth in Gels
Journal of Applied Physics, 1969Observations on the cusp-shaped ``cracks'' which form around crystals growing in gels are reported. It is shown that the cusps are interconnected, that the most common shape of the cusps is three-sided, that the cusp sides have a ridged structure, and finally, that the disposition of cusps around a growing crystal often displays a good deal of symmetry.

Determination of the structure of agarose gels by gel chromatography
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1967Abstract Well-characterized fractions of the synthetic polysaccharide Ficoll have been chromatographed on columns of pearl-condensed agarose gels of concentrations between 2 and 8%. The results agree with the theory that the Ficoll is sterically excluded from the gel, which is made up of a random three-dimensional network of long fibers.
