An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 600, Issue 12, Page 1782-1800, June 2026.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Exploring the lichenization continuum through the marine tripartite symbiosis of Collemopsidium pelvetiae

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Premise Symbioses between lichen‐forming fungi and brown algae (phaeophytes) are extremely rare. We investigated the interactions between the marine fungus Collemopsidium pelvetiae and its two photosynthetic partners, the brown alga Pelvetia canaliculata and a cyanobacterial symbiont to address questions on symbiosis biology, lichenization ...

In silico comparative analysis of cestode and human NPC1 provides insights for ezetimibe repurposing to visceral cestodiases treatment

open access: yesScientific Reports
Visceral cestodiases, like cysticercoses and echinococcoses, are caused by cystic larvae from parasites of the Cestoda class and are endemic or hyperendemic in many areas of the world.

Organic acid effects on Brassica napus L. var. oleifera seed germination and seedling growth

open access: yesRevista de Ciências Agroveterinárias, 2019
Canola (Brassica napus L. var. oleifera) is cultivated in the Southern Brazil as an alternative winter crop in the rotation system. No-tillage and hydromorphic soils favor the formation of aliphatic organic acids with short chain and low molecular weight,

Comparative transcriptomic analysis of antimony resistant and susceptible Leishmania infantum lines

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2020
Background One of the major challenges to leishmaniasis treatment is the emergence of parasites resistant to antimony. To study differentially expressed genes associated with drug resistance, we performed a comparative transcriptomic analysis between ...

Evidence of introgression amid phylogenetic conflict in Brachyotum, a plant radiation from the Tropical Andes

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Premise The species‐rich flora of Tropical Andes underwent multiple rapid and recent diversifications, yet resolving their evolutionary histories remains challenging despite increasing phylogenomic data. Here, we examined phylogenomic conflict in Brachyotum (Melastomataceae) to identify sources preventing its resolution.
