The Role of Enoyl Reductase in the Monacolin K Biosynthesis Pathway in Monascus spp.

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Monacolin K (MK), a secondary metabolite produced by Monascus spp. with the ability to inhibit cholesterol production, is structurally identical to lovastatin produced by Aspergillus terreus.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Fluostatins M–Q Featuring a 6-5-6-6 Ring Skeleton and High Oxidized A-Rings from Marine Streptomyces sp. PKU-MA00045

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2018
Aromatic polyketides from marine actinomycetes have received increasing attention due to their unusual structures and potent bioactivities. Compared to their terrestrial counterparts, marine aromatic polyketides have been less discovered and their ...

Discovery of molecular subtypes in leiomyosarcoma through integrative molecular profiling. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a soft tissue tumor with a significant degree of morphologic and molecular heterogeneity. We used integrative molecular profiling to discover and characterize molecular subtypes of LMS.

Gene organization of murine homeobox-containing gene clusters

open access: yesGenomics, 1988
A chromosomal walk which links a previously described and a new homeobox to the Hox-2 murine homeobox gene cluster is described, and the nucleotide sequence of the new homeobox is presented. With these new data the Hox-2 gene cluster contains seven loci on an approximately 100-kb-long physical map.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Heterologous Production of a Novel Cyclic Peptide Compound, KK-1, in Aspergillus oryzae

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
A novel cyclic peptide compound, KK-1, was originally isolated from the plant-pathogenic fungus Curvularia clavata. It consists of 10 amino acid residues, including five N-methylated amino acid residues, and has potent antifungal activity.

Novel copper-containing membrane monooxygenases (CuMMOs) encoded by alkane-utilizing Betaproteobacteria. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Copper-containing membrane monooxygenases (CuMMOs) are encoded by xmoCAB(D) gene clusters and catalyze the oxidation of methane, ammonia, or some short-chain alkanes and alkenes.

Horizontal Transfer and Death of a Fungal Secondary Metabolic Gene Cluster

open access: yesGenome Biology and Evolution, 2012
A cluster composed of four structural and two regulatory genes found in several species of the fungal genus Fusarium (class Sordariomycetes) is responsible for the production of the red pigment bikaverin.
