Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

MGEnrichment: A web application for microglia gene list enrichment analysis.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2021
Gene expression analysis is becoming increasingly utilized in neuro-immunology research, and there is a growing need for non-programming scientists to be able to analyze their own genomic data.

Modeling association between DNA copy number and gene expression with constrained piecewise linear regression splines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
DNA copy number and mRNA expression are widely used data types in cancer studies, which combined provide more insight than separately. Whereas in existing literature the form of the relationship between these two types of markers is fixed a priori, in ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Image Super-Resolution Based on CNN Using Multilabel Gene Expression Programming

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Current mainstream super-resolution algorithms based on deep learning use a deep convolution neural network (CNN) framework to realize end-to-end learning from low-resolution (LR) image to high-resolution (HR) images, and have achieved good image ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Incremental Gene Expression Programming Classifier with Metagenes and Data Reduction

open access: yesComplexity, 2018
The paper proposes an incremental Gene Expression Programming classifier. Its main features include using two-level ensemble consisting of base classifiers in form of genes and the upper-level classifier in the form of metagene.

Gene expression program analysis of cancer-testis genes

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao. Yixue ban, 2023
Objective·To identify the gene expression program (GEP) of cancer-testis genes (CTGs) during spermatogenesis based on single-cell transcriptome data from the testis and investigate their association with the prognosis of cancer patients. Methods·Expression profiles of normal and tumor tissues were obtained from the GTEx and TCGA databases to screen CTGs.
