Mapping the landscape of metabolic goals of a cell [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Genome-scale flux balance models of metabolism provide testable predictions of all metabolic rates in an organism, by assuming that the cell is optimizing a metabolic goal known as the objective function.

Two Faces of NOTCH1 in Childhood Lymphoblastic T‐Cell Neoplasia: Prognostic Divergence of Mutational and Structural Aberrations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In pediatric patients, T‐cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T‐LBL) survival exceeds 80%. Relapse remains associated with limited curative options. Frontline treatment is largely extrapolated from T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) treatment, reflecting the ongoing debate, whether both entities represent distinct diseases or variants within ...

A hybrid gene expression programming algorithm based on orthogonal design

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, 2016
The last decade has witnessed a great interest on the application of evolutionary algorithms, such as genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and gene expression programming (GEP), for optimization problems. This paper presents a hybrid

Gene Expression Programming for Estimating Shear Strength of RC Squat Wall

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
The flanged, barbell, and rectangular squat reinforced concrete (RC) walls are broadly used in low-rise commercial and highway under and overpasses. The shear strength of squat walls is the major design consideration because of their smaller aspect ratio.

Maternal diet programs embryonic kidney gene expression

open access: yesPhysiological Genomics, 2005
Human epidemiological data associating birth weight with adult disease suggest that organogenesis is “programmed” by maternal diet. In rats, protein restriction in pregnancy produces offspring with fewer renal glomeruli and higher systemic blood pressures than controls.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

A true triaxial strength criterion for rocks by gene expression programming

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2023
Rock strength is a crucial factor to consider when designing and constructing underground projects. This study utilizes a gene expression programming (GEP) algorithm-based model to predict the true triaxial strength of rocks, taking into account the ...

Inferring the function of genes from synthetic lethal mutations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Techniques for detecting synthetic lethal mutations in double gene deletion experiments are emerging as powerful tool for analysing genes in parallel or overlapping pathways with a shared function.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Maternal corticotropin-releasing hormone is associated with LEP DNA methylation at birth and in childhood: an epigenome-wide study in Project Viva [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BackgroundCorticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) plays a central role in regulating the secretion of cortisol which controls a wide range of biological processes. Fetuses overexposed to cortisol have increased risks of disease in later life.
