ELABELA Targets Mitochondria to Modulate Heart Development
The role of peptide ELABELA (ELA) in cardiomyocyte apoptosis and congenital heart disease (CHD) is unclear. ELA deficiency caused cardiomyocyte apoptosis and CHD. A novel ELA‐APJ‐AKT‐BCL2/BAX axis in regulating mitochondrial function and contributing to CHD pathogenesis was established.

The Escherichia coli gene pool
Current Opinion in Microbiology, 2001Wild Escherichia coli are superbly adapted to survive in the intestines of their mammalian hosts and in the environment. E. coli K12 derivative (MG1655) encodes 4288 potential genes that provide the background genetic framework of this species. Particular E.

Divergent gene pools in rice improvement
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1983The objective of the present study was to investigate the genetic architecture of yield in diverse populations of rice. Multivariate analysis by Mahalanobis's D(2) statistic and canonical (vector) analysis revealed that panicle weight, days to maturity, plant height and seed size were the important forces contributing towards divergence.

Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, 2003
The conservation and utilization of allied gene resources is vital for the improvement of crop species. Rubber has been an undeniably beneficial commodity for the past 100 years. Progress in yield improvement over 70 years resulted in primary and hybrid clones with exceptional yielding abilities.

Psoriasis, innate immunity, and gene pools
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2007Recently, emphasis has shifted from T cells to innate (natural) immunity as the possible major culprit in psoriasis. All known elements of innate immune responses are up-regulated in psoriasis lesions, which must have a polygenetic origin. We hypothesize that urbanized populations have been under evolutionary pressure that selects for increased innate ...
