The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Expression of Alpha-type Platelet-derived Growth Factor Receptor–influenced Genes Predicts Clinical Outcome in Glioma

open access: yesTranslational Oncology, 2020
BACKGROUND: Alpha-type platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFRα) is a cell surface tyrosine kinase receptor for members of the platelet-derived growth factor family.

An immune cell infiltration-related gene signature predicts prognosis for bladder cancer

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
To explore novel therapeutic targets, develop a gene signature and construct a prognostic nomogram of bladder cancer (BCa). Transcriptome data and clinical traits of BCa were downloaded from UCSC Xena database and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database ...

Journal Staff [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
A myelopoiesis gene signature in circulating leucocytes, exemplified by increased myeloperoxidase (MPO) and proteinase 3 (PR3) mRNA levels, has been reported in patients with active anti-neutrophil cytoplasm antibody associated vasculitis (AAV) and to a ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

A thirty-three gene-based signature predicts lymph node metastasis and prognosis in patients with gastric cancer

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Recently, several studies have indicated the great potential of gene expression signature of the primary tumor in predicting lymph node metastasis; however, few current gene biomarkers can predict lymph node status and prognosis in gastric cancer (GC ...

Cyclin D1-mediated microRNA expression signature predicts breast cancer outcome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Genetic classification of breast cancer based on the coding mRNA suggests the evolution of distinct subtypes. Whether the non-coding genome is altered concordantly with the coding genome and the mechanism by which the cell cycle directly ...
