General anaesthesia for thyroplasty [PDF]

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 1998
A new anaesthetic technique is described for thyroplasty. Thyroplasty was performed to restore the voice in unilateral vocal cord paralysis. After skin incision and dissection down to the larynx, a window was cut in the thyroid ala and a silastic wedge used to displace the vocal cord medially.

The effect of supplemental oxygen on perioperative brain natriuretic peptide concentration in cardiac risk patients – a protocol for a prosprective randomized clinical trial

open access: yesTrials, 2020
Background Elevated postoperative N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) concentrations are predictive for cardiac adverse events in noncardiac surgery.

Face Coverings, Aerosol Dispersion and Mitigation of Virus Transmission Risk [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Engineering in Medicine and Biology, 2021, 2020
The SARS-CoV-2 virus is primarily transmitted through virus-laden fluid particles ejected from the mouth of infected people. Face covers can mitigate the risk of virus transmission but their outward effectiveness is not fully ascertained. Objective: by using a background oriented schlieren technique, we aim to investigate the air flow ejected by a ...

IS SPINAL ANAESTHESIA A CONVIENIENT OPTION FOR LOWER SEGMENT CAESAREAN SECTION IN MODERATE TO SEVERE PREECLAPSIA IN PATIENTS WITH NORMAL BLOOD INDICIES? [PDF]

open access: yesBasrah Journal of Surgery, 2015
Caesarean section is a common technique of terminating pregnancy in pre-eclamptic patients. The anaesthesiologists are more possible to face a difficult airway in a pre-eclamptic patient.

A comparison of medetomidine and its active enantiomer dexmedetomidine when administered with ketamine in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Medetomidine-ketamine (MK) and dexmedetomidine-ketamine (DK) are widely used to provide general anaesthesia in laboratory animals, but have not been compared directly in many of these species, including rodents.

Dementia risk after major elective surgery based on the route of anaesthesia: A propensity score-matched population-based cohort studyResearch in context

open access: yesEClinicalMedicine, 2023
Summary: Background: Whether the route of anaesthesia is an independent risk factor for dementia remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted a propensity score–matched (PSM) population-based cohort study to compare dementia incidence among surgical ...
