Comparison of general circulation models
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1992Radiative forcing of Earth’s climate due to increases in greenhouse gases is compared in a number of Geneal Circulation Models. Feedback effects due to water vapor and clouds are discussed. (AIP)

NAO–ocean circulation interactions in a coupled general circulation model
Climate Dynamics, 2008The interplay between the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the large scale ocean circulation is inspected in a twentieth century simulation conducted with a state-of-the-art coupled general circulation model. Significant lead–lag covariance between oceanic and tropospheric variables suggests that the system supports a damped oscillatory mode ...

Verification of General Circulation Models
2020Stochastic approach to verification of GCMs is advantageous because it allows one to use mathematically proper and reliable tools of analysis to test results of climate simulations, from local to global spatial scales. In this chapter, the autoregressive approach to analysis of scalar and bivariate time series is applied to test results of GCM ...

Modeling of the radiative process in an atmospheric general circulation model
Applied Optics, 2000A new radiation scheme has been developed for dynamic general-circulation modeling. An automatic determination of k-distribution parameters and a treatment of solar-terrestrial radiation interacting with gaseous and particulate matter are incorporated into the scheme by a technique that combines discrete ordinate and matrix operator methods.

A scheme for predicting layer clouds and their water content in a general circulation model
, 1990A cloud water variable has been included in the Meteorological Office atmospheric general circulation model. the cloud amount and water content are generated by a scheme which assumes a distribution of thermodynamic and water content variables about ...

Atmospheric General Circulation Modeling
2012This entry provides a brief introduction to the computer models of the atmosphere used for climate studies. The concepts of atmospheric forcing and response are developed and used to highlight the importance of clouds and aerosols to the climate system and the many uncertainties associated with their representation.

A general circulation model of stratospheric ozone
International Conference on the Environmental Impact of Aerospace Operations in the High Atmosphere, 1973The paper reports on a general circulation model being developed with the ultimate objective of assessing the effect of SST operations on the atmospheric ozone distribution. The model variables are represented in the spectral domain using 79 spherical harmonics and 26 vertical levels between the ground and 70 km.

Snow Hydrology in a General Circulation Model
Journal of Climate, 1994A snow hydrology has been implemented in an atmospheric general circulation model (GCM). The snow hydrology consists of parameterizations of snowfall and snow cover fraction, a prognostic calculation of snow temperature, and a model of the snow mass and hydrologic budgets. Previously, only snow albedo had been included by a specified snow line.

The Stratosphere in General Circulation Models
1993A simple discussion of the processes which maintain the mean state of the stratosphere is given in order to demonstrate how the stratosphere might influence the tropospheric circulation. A series of GCM studies which indicate that the strength of the polar night jet is important in determining the planetary wave structures in the troposphere are then ...

Modeling the General Circulation of the Mediterranean
1994The general properties of the general circulation of the Mediterranean basin are first summarized and discussed, critically assessing the still unsolved questions related to it. Then, ongoing modeling efforts are presented that focus upon different aspects of the circulation, such as the wind-driven and/or the thermohaline components; the seasonal ...
