Curve-based monotonicity: a generalization of directional monotonicity [PDF]
In this work we propose a generalization of the notion of directional monotonicity. Instead of considering increasingness or decreasingness along rays, we allow more general paths defined by curves in the n-dimensional space. These considerations lead us to the notion of α-monotonicity, where α is the corresponding curve.

On the Monotonicity of Relative Entropy: A Comparative Study of Petz’s and Uhlmann’s Approaches [PDF]
We revisit the monotonicity of relative entropy under the action of quantum channels, a foundational result in quantum information theory. Among the several available proofs, we focus on those by Petz and Uhlmann, which we reformulate within a unified ...

Size-Change Termination, Monotonicity Constraints and Ranking Functions [PDF]
Size-Change Termination (SCT) is a method of proving program termination based on the impossibility of infinite descent. To this end we may use a program abstraction in which transitions are described by monotonicity constraints over (abstract) variables.

Generalized Monotonicity Analysis [PDF]
The authors consider a nonlinear equation \(f(x,t)=0,\) where \(x \in \mathbb R^{n}\) is a decision variable, \(t \in \mathbb R^{m}\) is a parameter, and \(f : \mathbb R^{n} \times \mathbb R^{m} \rightarrow \mathbb R^{n}\) is a smooth function and investigate monotonicity issues of the solution trajectory (path) \(x(t)\) (or some function \(\phi (x)\))

An Extension to Nonlinear Sum-Difference Inequality and Applications
We establish a general form of sum-difference inequality in two variables, which includes both more than two distinct nonlinear sums without an assumption of monotonicity and a nonconstant term outside the sums.

Compensating Data Shortages in Manufacturing with Monotonicity Knowledge
Systematic decision making in engineering requires appropriate models. In this article, we introduce a regression method for enhancing the predictive power of a model by exploiting expert knowledge in the form of shape constraints, or more specifically ...
