Two-parameter generalization of the logarithm and exponential functions and Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon entropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The q-sum x⊕qy≡x+y+(1−q)xy (x⊕1y=x+y) and the q-product x⊗qy≡[x1−q+y1−q−1]1∕(1−q) (x⊗1y=xy) emerge naturally within nonextensive statistical mechanics. We show here how they lead to two-parameter (namely, q and q′) generalizations of the logarithmic and ...

Quantization for Low-Rank Matrix Recovery

open access: yes, 2018
We study Sigma-Delta quantization methods coupled with appropriate reconstruction algorithms for digitizing randomly sampled low-rank matrices. We show that the reconstruction error associated with our methods decays polynomially with the oversampling ...

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

A Characterization of Exponential and Ordinary Generating Functions

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 2002
This paper deals with the question why, of all possible generating functions, the ordinary and exponential generating functions are special. Let \(\Omega=(\omega_0,\omega_1,\dots)\) be a sequence of reals and \({\mathbf a}=(a_0,a_1,\dots)\) a sequence of complex numbers. Then \[ \Omega_{\mathbf a}(z)=\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}a_n \omega_n z^n \] is called the

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Generalizations of Paley-Wiener’s theorem for entire functions of exponential type [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1987
An interpretation and generalizations of the Paley-Wiener theorem for entire functions of exponential type are given in connection with the Fourier-Laplace transform.

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Derivation of the Two-Exponential Probability Density Function for Rossi-Alpha Measurements of Reflected Assemblies and Validation for the Special Case of Shielded Measurements

open access: yesNuclear science and engineering, 2019
Rossi-alpha measurements of fissionable assemblies are used to estimate the prompt neutron decay constant α. Reactivity can be inferred from α if the values of the neutron generation time and effective delayed neutron fraction are assumed.

4-Dimensional BF Theory as a Topological Quantum Field Theory

open access: yes, 1995
Starting from a Lie group G whose Lie algebra is equipped with an invariant nondegenerate symmetric bilinear form, we show that 4-dimensional BF theory with cosmological term gives rise to a TQFT satisfying a generalization of Atiyah's axioms to ...
