Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Distribution of Electrical Resistivity in Single Carbon Fiber Filaments and Its Correlation With Tensile Modulus

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A statistical framework is applied to quantify the distribution of electrical resistivity among individual filaments of two commercially available carbon fiber types. Correlations between filament resistivity, tensile modulus, and diameter are examined and complemented by TEM analysis to provide new insight into filament‐level variability relevant for ...

Transducer Placement Option of Lamb Wave SHM System for Hotspot Damage Monitoring

open access: yesAerospace, 2018
In this paper, we investigated transducer placement strategies for detecting cracks in primary aircraft structures using ultrasonic Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). The approach developed is for an expected damage location based on fracture mechanics,

Hydrogeological structure model of the fault zone in the karst area of north China

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica, 2022
The fault zone has a controlling effect on the mechanical properties and fluid flow characteristics of the crust. It is an extensively distributed and very important structural pattern in the upper crust, and widely participates in the crustal activity ...

Adaptive 4D‐Printed Vascular Stents With Low‐Temperature‐Activated and Intelligent Deployment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microarchitected coronary artery stents were fabricated using a polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based shape memory polymer (SMP) composite via projection micro‐stereolithography (PµSL) 4D printing. By incorporating diethyl phthalate (DEP) as a plasticizer, the thermal transition temperature (Ttran) was modulated to about 37°C, enabling rapid and autonomous ...

The Splitting Method and the GFEMin the Two-Dimensional Analysis of Linear Elastic Domains with Multiple Cracks

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
The aim of this paper is to analyse two-dimensional linear elastic continuum containing multiple interacting cracks. Both the mechanical model and the numerical approach are addressed throughout the text as key concepts for the computational framework ...

Unloading deterioration and mechanism of rock under different loading and unloading stress paths

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu, 2022
In order to study the failure mechanism of deep coal seam floor under unloading, pseudo-triaxial mechanical tests were carried out under different loading and unloading stress paths.

Block Copolymers: Emerging Building Blocks for Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review addresses how block copolymer (BCP) physics and rheology have led to the widespread use of BCPs in advanced additive manufacturing techniques, with particular emphasis on the untapped potential of these nanostructured materials toward achieving multi‐scale architected materials with unique, programmable material properties.

Experimental and finite element analysis of fracture criterion in general yielding fracture mechanics

open access: yesSadhana, 2002
Efforts made over the last three decades to understand the fracture behaviour of structural materials in elastic and elasto-plastic fracture mechanics are numerous, whereas investigations related to fracture behaviour of materials in thin sheets or general yielding fracture regimes are limited in number.

Micro and Nanostructural Diversity of Lizard Osteoderm Capping Tissue in Relation to Mechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that lizard osteoderm capping tissue is a hyper‐mineralized hydroxyapatite layer consistently covering the superficial osteoderm surface in those species studied here, yet it varies greatly in morphology, nanostructure, and mechanical performance across species.
