Localized juvenile periodontitis and generalized severe periodontitis: clinical findings
Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1984Abstract Medically healthy subjects (N=103), 10–32 years of age, with localized (juvenile periodontitis = JP) or generalized (severe periodontitis=SP) advanced periodontal disease were analyzed for interrelationships of sex, race, age and clinical findings. Females predominated (2:1) in both JP and SP.

Periodontics in general practice: perspectives on periodontal diagnosis
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1989Standardized terminology does not exist to differentiate the conditions that constitute "response diagnosis" and "disease diagnosis" described in this review. Therefore, appropriate descriptive terminology is proposed for these two periodontic diagnoses. Diagnostic terms are needed to discern stages of disease.

Immunoregulation in severe generalized periodontitis
Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology, 1985Severe generalized periodontitis (SGP) is an inflammatory disease which leads to extensive alveolar bone loss in young adults. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from SGP patients have been previously reported to exhibit an in vitro hyperproliferative response when exposed to B cell mitogens derived from Staphylococcus aureus and Actinomyces viscosus ...

General anaesthesia for periodontal surgery
Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1978Abstract. A technique is described in which full‐mouth periodontal surgery is carried out under general anaesthesia. The use of an endotracheal tube with inflatable cuff allows good visibility and access to all parts of the mouth unhampered by a throat pack; access is further improved by sloping the operating table foot‐down.A system of haemorrhage ...

Periodontal Disease and General Health
Dental Update, 2005There is considerable interest in the possible relationship between periodontal disease and pregnancy complications, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and respiratory diseases. This interest has been stimulated by data obtained from epidemiological studies and a better understanding of the pathogenesis of periodontal disease.

Periodontal Therapy in Young Adults With Severe Generalized Periodontitis
Journal of Periodontology, 1994This study evaluated the effect of periodontal therapy on clinical and microbiological parameters in 23 subjects with severe generalized early onset periodontitis. Therapy consisted of oral hygiene instruction and root planing and scaling, followed 3 months later by open flap debridement. Subjects were monitored for both clinical measures and levels of
