Generalized Ramsey numbers through adiabatic quantum optimization [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum Information Processing, 2016
Ramsey theory is an active research area in combinatorics whose central theme is the emergence of order in large disordered structures, with Ramsey numbers marking the threshold at which this order first appears.

On generalized Ramsey numbers of Erdős and Rogers [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Comb. Theory B, 2013
Extending the concept of Ramsey numbers, Erd?s and Rogers introduced the following function. For given integers 2 ? s < t let f s , t ( n ) = min ? { max ? { | W | : W ?

On Generalized Ramsey Numbers for 3‐Uniform Hypergraphs [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Graph Theory, 2013
The well‐known Ramsey number r(t,u) is the smallest integer n such that every Kt ‐free graph of order n contains an independent set of size u. In other words, it contains a subset of u vertices with no K2.

Inosine triphosphate pyrophosphatase activity as a potential predictor of methotrexate remission in juvenile idiopathic arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Background Methotrexate (MTX) is the first‐line therapy for juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), but up to 40% of patients don't respond. Low inosine‐triphosphate‐pyrophosphatase (ITPA) activity has been associated with reduced clinical remission. We investigated ITPA role and the underlying mechanisms in vitro.

Multi‐omic profiling reveals immune cell priming signature linked to lupus prognosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multi‐organ disease with widespread immune dysregulation and significant unmet clinical need. Blood‐based gene expression studies have advanced our understanding of SLE pathogenesis but may overlook critical tissue‐specific mechanisms that drive disease heterogeneity and progression.

The flexible, the stereotyped and the in‐between: putting together the combinatory tool use origins hypothesis

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tool use research has long made the distinction between tool using that is considered learned and flexible, and that which appears to be instinctive and stereotyped. However, animals with an inherited tool use specialisation can exhibit flexibility, while tool use that is spontaneously innovated can be limited in its expression and facilitated

Monochromatic Sums and Products of Polynomials

open access: yesDiscrete Analysis
Monochromatic sums and products of polynomials, Discrete Analysis 2024:5, 7 pp. An early result in Ramsey theory, Schur's theorem, states that if the positive integers are finitely coloured, then there will always be $x$ and $y$ such that $x,y$ and $x ...

Sentience in cephalopod molluscs: an updated assessment

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article evaluates the evidence for sentience – the capacity to have feelings – in cephalopod molluscs: octopus, cuttlefish, squid, and nautilus. Our framework includes eight criteria, covering both whether the animal's nervous system could support sentience and whether their behaviour indicates sentience.
