ON THE PROPERTIES OF GENERALIZED RAYLEIGH DISTRIBUTION WITH APPLICATIONS

In this study, a new three-parameter lifetime distribution called the generalized Rayleigh distribution was introduced. The new model is an extension of classical Rayleigh distribution. An extension of density of the generalized Rayleigh distribution was derived from which some of the statistical and mathematical properties were derived.

Generalization of Rayleigh Probability Distribution and its Application

The Rayleigh probability distribution has been used extensively for statistical prediction of ocean waves, responses of ships, and marine structures in a seaway. However, the Rayleigh distribution cannot be used for statistical prediction of non-Gaussian random processes, a typical example of which is ship rolling motion with nonlinear characteristics.

Generalized Rayleigh distribution was deduced for the amplitude SAR image according to the generalized central limit theorem, and the parameters were estimated by the negative order moment. Based on the disadvantage of single-point estimation, global search was suggested to achieve the optimal parameters.
