Generalized Unimodality and Subordinators, With Applications to Stable Laws and to the Mittag-Leffler Function

open access: greenJournal of Theoretical Probability, 2023
Using the differential operator $Ω_s := s I − x d/dx , s > 0$, we build a new class of infinitely divisible distributions on the half-line. For this class, we give a stochastic interpretation and we provide several monotonicity properties for the associated subordinators.

Generalized Ziggurat Algorithm for Unimodal and Unbounded Probability Density Functions with Zest [PDF]

open access: green, 2018
We present a modified Ziggurat algorithm that could generate a random number from all unimodal and unbounded PDFs. For PDFs that have unbounded density and/or unbounded support we use a combination of nonlinear mapping function and rejection sampling to generate a random number from the peak and/or the tail distribution.

Unimodal sequence generating functions arising from partition ranks [PDF]

open access: yesResearch in Number Theory, 2019
In this paper we study generating functions resembling the rank of strongly unimodal sequences. We give combinatorial interpretations, identities in terms of mock modular forms, asymptotics, and a parity result. Our functions imitate a relation between the rank of strongly unimodal sequences and the rank of integer partitions.

Bayesian and frequentist approach for the generalized log-logistic accelerated failure time model with applications to larynx-cancer patients

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2022
The log-normal, log-logistic and Weibull distributions are commonly utilized to model survival data. Unimodal (or non-monotone) failure rate functions are modeled using the log-normal and the log-logistic families, whereas monotone failure rate functions

Laplace transformed properties of the extended power-Gompertz model: Simulation and applications

open access: yesScientific African, 2023
In this paper, a new four-parameter lifetime model tilted the exponentiated power Gompertz (EXPGO) model is proposed. The explicit expressions of the density, distribution and quantile functions of the EXPGO are provided.

Concept, absolute calibration, and validation of a new benchtop laser imaging polar nephelometer [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2023
Polar nephelometers provide in situ measurements of aerosol angular light scattering and play an essential role in validating numerically calculated phase functions or inversion algorithms used in space-borne and land-based aerosol remote sensing.

Natural boundary for the susceptibility function of generic piecewise expanding unimodal maps [PDF]

open access: yesErgodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, 2013
AbstractFor a piecewise expanding unimodal interval map$f$with unique absolutely continuous invariant probability measure$\mu $, a perturbation$X$, and an observable$\varphi $, the susceptibility function is$\Psi _\varphi (z)= \sum _{k=0}^\infty z^k \int X(x) \varphi '( f^k)(x) (f^k)'(x) \, d\mu $. Combining previous results [V.

Power Modified Lindley Distribution: Properties, Classical and Bayesian Estimation and Regression Model with Applications

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2023
In this article, we explore a new probability density function, called the power modified Lindley distribution. Its main feature is to operate a simple trade-off among the generalized exponential, Weibull and gamma distributions, offering an alternative

Complete Study of an Original Power-Exponential Transformation Approach for Generalizing Probability Distributions

open access: yesAxioms, 2023
In this paper, we propose a flexible and general family of distributions based on an original power-exponential transformation approach. We call it the modified generalized-G (MGG) family.
