Implications of summer breeding phenology on demography of monarch butterflies

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 4, Page 682-692, April 2025.
This research showed that changes in early season phenology are not a threat to eastern North American monarchs living in the central United States, but drivers of breeding‐season growth rates and changes in late‐season phenology merit further study, both in the central United States and in other parts of the monarch's range. Arthropod abundances track soil fertility across a lowland tropical forest landscape

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study reveals strong, diverse associations between soil phosphorus and the abundances of understorey arthropods across a lowland tropical forest landscape. These patterns were not paralleled in an adjacent site‐level fertilisation experiment, raising the interesting possibility that arthropod–phosphorus associations could be mediated by spatial ...

Linking leaf economic spectrum to floral resources along an environmental gradient

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
Although it is generally assumed that vegetative and reproductive traits are subject to different selection pressures, our results highlight their interconnectedness and suggest that their evolution may be characterised by the balance of different selection factors rather than by independent processes.

Interspecific and intraspecific variations in root phosphatase activity among tropical tree species with different soil phosphorus associations

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
Our results suggest that the specialization of tropical tree species to low‐P soil involves investment in the acquisition of complex soil organic phosphates such as phosphodiesters and phytic acid. This is possibly related to root trait divergence and indicates that variation in P acquisition strategies among tropical tree species could contribute to ...

In the shadow of bureaucratic governance: A framework for internal governance in government organisations

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Public Administration, EarlyView.
Abstract Government organisations employ various forms of governance, both externally and internally. Externally, government organisations increasingly operate within networks, while internally, bureaucratic governance is often maintained. While research has been conducted on how external network governance can be shaped, less is known about the impact
