A redundancy model with generally distributed repair times, imperfect switchovers, and interrupted repairs is considered. Using supplementary variable method and integro‐differential equations, the analytical expression of the availability for the redundancy model is obtained.

Product forms for availability models [PDF]
This paper shows and illustrates that product form expressions for the steady state distribution, as known for queueing networks, can also be extended to a class of availability models.

Summary: This paper discusses the determination of the spare inventory level for a multiechelon repairable item inventory system, which has several bases and a central depot with emergency lateral transshipment capability. Previous research is extended by removing a restrictive assumption on the repair time distribution.

Running a distributed virtual observatory: US Virtual Astronomical Observatory operations [PDF]
Operation of the US Virtual Astronomical Observatory shares some issues with modern physical observatories, e.g., intimidating data volumes and rapid technological change, and must also address unique concerns like the lack of direct control of the ...

Sensitivity of Building Loss Estimates to Major Uncertain Variables [PDF]
This paper examines the question of which sources of uncertainty most strongly affect the repair cost of a building in a future earthquake. Uncertainties examined here include spectral acceleration, ground-motion details, mass, damping, structural force ...

Approximate performability and dependability analysis using generalized stochastic Petri Nets [PDF]
Since current day fault-tolerant and distributed computer and communication systems tend to be large and complex, their corresponding performability models will suffer from the same characteristics.

A comparison of numerical splitting-based methods for Markovian dependability and performability models [PDF]
Iterative numerical methods are an important ingredient for the solution of continuous time Markov dependability models of fault-tolerant systems. In this paper we make a numerical comparison of several splitting-based iterative methods. We consider the
