The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Generative design for individual orthopaedic insoles: Optimisation of load distribution and additive manufacturing

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering
Introduction: Generative Design (GD) is an intelligent process that uses algorithms to automatically create optimised, functional and material-efficient structures based on defined parameters and loads. This makes it a valuable tool for the customisation

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Generation of Factorial Designs

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1976
Summary This paper describes a method for generating asymmetrical factorial designs given specified relationships between the levels of treatment and plot factors. Comparisons are made with a generalized cyclic method (John and Dean, 1975) for single replicate designs.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Generalized Right Angular Designs

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1965
Investigations of association schemes for three or more associate class PBIB designs have been limited mainly to the works of Vartak [17], Raghavarao [5], Roy [9], Singh and Shukla [15], Raghavarao and Chandrasekhararao [8] and Tharthare [16]. In this article we generalize the right angular association scheme introduced by the author in [16] to study ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
