Short-Term Memory and Working Memory in Children with Blindness: Support for a Domain General or Domain Specific System?

Child Neuropsychology, 2009
The study explored the contribution of two component processes (phonological and executive) to blind children's memory performance. Children with blindness and sight were matched on gender, chronological age, and verbal intelligence and compared on measures of short-term memory (STM) and working memory (WM). Although the measures were highly correlated,

Identification of generic and pathogen-specific cord blood monocyte transcriptomes reveals a largely conserved response in preterm and term newborn infants

Journal of Molecular Medicine, 2017
Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis are predominant causes of neonatal sepsis, particularly affecting preterm infants. Susceptibility to infection has been attributed to "immature" innate monocyte defences, but no studies have assessed global transcriptional responses of neonatal monocytes to these pathogens.

Glycogen synthase kinase 3 inhibition lowers PD-1 expression, promotes long-term survival and memory generation in antigen-specific CAR-T cells

Cancer Letters, 2018
Successful remission in hematological cancers by CAR-T cell immunotherapy has yet to be replicated in solid tumors like GBM. A significant impediment of CAR-T immunotherapy in solid tumors is poor exposure of T cells to tumor antigens resulting in suboptimal CAR-T cell activation, which ultimately fails to induce a robust anti-tumor immune response ...

Disease-Specific and Generic Health Outcomes: A Model for the Evaluation of Long-Term Intrathecal Opioid Therapy in Noncancer Low Back Pain Patients

The Clinical Journal of Pain, 1999
The present study provided comprehensive characterization of the long-term outcomes of intrathecal opioid administration via a drug administration system (DAS) in chronic pain patients with predominantly low back pain. A conceptual framework based on multidimensional outcomes is proposed using both disease-specific and generic measures.Pre-post ...

Specific and common processes as mediators of the long-term effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy integrated with motivational interviewing for generalized anxiety disorder

Psychotherapy Research, 2017
A trial of psychotherapy for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) demonstrated that motivational interviewing (MI) integrated with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) outperformed CBT alone on clients' worry reduction across a 12-month follow-up. In the present study, we hypothesized and tested that less client resistance and greater client-perceived ...
