Laboratory investigation of coupled electrical interaction of fracturing rock with gases

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2021
In the coupled electric interaction of rock fractures and gas invasion, that is, when gases interact with newly created crack surfaces, the unpaired electrons within the rock crystal defects are thermally stimulated, released into the crack due to the ...

EbbRT: a customizable operating system for cloud applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Efficient use of hardware requires operating system components be customized to the application workload. Our general purpose operating systems are ill-suited for this task.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Symptom impact and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) assessment by cancer stage: a narrative literature review

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Background Cancer stage at diagnosis is an important prognostic indicator for patient outcomes, with detection at later stages associated with increased mortality and morbidity. The impact of cancer stage on patient-reported outcomes is poorly understood.

Response to Allopurinol and Febuxostat According to the Fractional Excretion of Urate in Men With Gout

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Body mass index (BMI), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and pretreatment urate levels have been reported to influence the urate‐lowering response to allopurinol. We investigated whether the fractional excretion of uric acid (FEUA) also modulates this response and relates to oxypurinol concentrations.

Halide‐Dependent Photoluminescence and Heavy‐Atom Effects in Low‐Melting Organic–Inorganic Manganese Halides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two pyridinium‐based ionic liquid templated hybrid manganese halides, (C4Py)2[MnCl4] and (C4Py)2[MnBr4], display similar bulk structures but show significantly different photoluminescence behaviors due to the bromine heavy‐atom effect. Their stable local Mn environments remain intact even in the molten state, allowing applications such as luminescence ...
