Unveiling the antimicrobial and biocontrol potential of the Ascomycete fungus, Clonostachys rosea: A review

open access: yesThe Microbe
Clonostachys rosea, originally named Gliocladium roseum, was reclassified in 1999 due to significant differences in morphology, ecology, teleomorph, and DNA sequences.

Genetic diversity in invasive populations of argentine stem weevil associated with adaptation to biocontrol

open access: yes, 2021
Modified, agricultural landscapes are susceptible to damage by insect pests. Biological control of pests is typically successful once a control agent has established, but this depends on the agent’s capacity to co-evolve with the host.

A Non‐Destructive Method for Sex Identification in a Tubuliferan Thrips

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Accurate sex identification of the biological control agent Pseudophilothrips ichini Hood (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae) is a useful tool for colony management and experimental applications in biological control. Destructive methods of sex identification limit specimen usage, prompting the need for a sex identification method for live thrips.

Diversity of the Microbiomes in the Larval and Adult Stages of the European Cherry Fruit Fly (Rhagoletis cerasi) and Identification of Potential Biocontrol Candidate Taxa

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
First comprehensive characterization of the R. cerasi microbiome is reported. Stage‐specific variations in microbial composition are documented. Multiple bacterial entomopathogen taxa are identified as potential biocontrol candidates for R. cerasi.

MicroRNA-mediated network redundancy is constrained by purifying selection and contributes to expression robustness in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesCommunications Biology
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are post-transcriptional, non-coding regulatory RNAs that function coordinately with transcription factors (TFs) in gene regulatory networks.

Prey Range and Voracity of Main Insect Natural Enemies of Pests in Corsican Clementine Orchards

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
To assess the biocontrol potential on the main arthropod pests of clementine orchards in Corsica, laboratory experiments were carried out using five potential predators. Their prey range and voracity were tested on three pest species. Then, a global predation rate index was calculated at the scale of the entire community of insect predators.

Social immune defence in ants - Different aspects of hygienic behaviour and the infestation with Laboulbeniales in Lasius neglectus ants

open access: yes, 2013
To study how immunity is achieved in insect societies I investigated the antiparasite defence of mainly the invasive garden ant Lasius neglectus when exposed to the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae.

Exploiting Native Biodiversity for Invasive Species Management: The Case of Exorista larvarum as a Natural Enemy of the Invasive Box Tree Moth Cydalima perspectalis

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
The investigations evaluated the performance of the native parasitoid Exorista larvarum (L.) on last instar Cydalima perspectalis (Walker) larvae, using the factitious host Galleria mellonella (L.) as a control. Laboratory bioassays were conducted using no‐choice and choice (1:1 and 5:5) experimental designs.

Plant Traits and Reproduction in a Multitrophic System: The Role of Aphids, Parasitoids and Hyperparasitoids

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
This field mesocosm study examined the top‐down effects of hyperparasitoids, parasitoids and aphids on plant growth and fitness. Parasitoids reduced aphid populations, but this effect was attenuated by hyperparasitoids. However, these multitrophic interactions did not affect plant traits and reproduction, likely due to the plant's fast life cycle and ...
