Abstract Despite their controversial nature, biodiversity offsets are often used as a regulatory tool to counterbalance the impacts of land clearing on biodiversity. Offsets usually aim to achieve no net loss (NNL) of biodiversity through protection and/or restoration of habitat.

Genetic manipulation of plant growth-promoting bacteria to enhance biocontrol of phytopathogens [PDF]
Plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) control the damage to plants from phytopathogens by a number of different mechanisms including: outcompeting the phytopathogen, physical displacement of the phytopathogen, secretion of siderophores to prevent pathogens in the immediate vicinity from proliferating, synthesis of antibiotics, synthesis of a variety ...

Plants, like humans, have a microbiome that helps them grow, defend themselves against pathogens, acquire nutrients, and protect themselves against environmental stresses. The microbiome of tomatoes, a staple crop grown worldwide, could be utilized not only to reduce fertilizer and pesticide applications, but also to clean up harmful pollutants ...

Co‐application of Bacillus strains TM22 and MCM61 suppressed Fusarium wilt of cotton. Seed biopriming with Bacillus strains performed better than soil drenching. TM22 + MCM61 improved vegetative and physiological aspects in cotton plants. TM22 + MCM61 enhanced the activity of defense enzymes and defense gene expression.

Genetic Variation in the Feeding Behavior of Isofemale Lines of Nesidiocoris tenuis
Zoophytophagous predators provide biocontrol services in various major crops of modern horticulture due to the combination of its predatory capacity and the induction of plant defenses derived from its phytophagy.

Evolutionary patchwork of an insecticidal toxin shared between plant-associated pseudomonads and the insect pathogens Photorhabdus and Xenorhabdus [PDF]
Background: Root-colonizing fluorescent pseudomonads are known for their excellent abilities to protect plants against soil-borne fungal pathogens. Some of these bacteria produce an insecticidal toxin (Fit) suggesting that they may exploit insect hosts ...
