Abstract This chapter provides information on the methods most commonly used in strawberry improvement, together with the genetics of the most important horticultural traits. Germplasm resources are reviewed in light of varietal improvement and the use of marker-assisted selection and genetic engineering in strawberry breeding are discussed.
