Trends of the genetic connectedness measures among Nelore beef cattle herds

Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 2011
SummaryValidity of comparisons between expected breeding values obtained from best linear unbiased prediction procedures in genetic evaluations is dependent on genetic connectedness among herds. Different cattle breeding programmes have their own particular features that distinguish their database structure and can affect connectedness.

Considerations on genetic connectedness between management units under an animal model

Journal of Animal Science, 1993
Connectedness among management units (e.g., herds or regions) is of concern in genetic evaluation. When genetic evaluation is under an animal model, connections occur through A, the numerator relationship matrix. It is argued that the most appropriate measure of connectedness is the average prediction error variance (PEV) of differences in EBV between ...

Connectedness among test series in mixed linear models of genetic evaluation for forest trees

Tree Genetics and Genomes, 2015
In forest tree species with large natural ranges, there are usually several to many separate breeding populations, each designed to capture elite material suited to a particular geographic region. Separate test series are often dedicated to each population.

Estimation of genetic connectedness between flocks in population of Istrian sheep

2021
Recent selection strategy in flocks of Croatian autochthonous Istrian sheep breed has been directed towards improvement of dairy traits (milk, fat, and protein yields). A pedigree based BLUP was established decade ago to support the breeders with the estimated breeding values (EBVs) of dairy traits.

Estimation of genetic parameters for reproductive traits in connectedness groups of Duroc, Landrace and Yorkshire pigs in China

Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 2019
AbstractThe objective of this study was to estimate group‐ and breed‐specific genetic parameters for reproductive traits in Chinese Duroc, Landrace, and Yorkshire populations. Records for reproductive traits between April 1998 and December 2017 from 92 nucleus pig breeding farms, which were involved in the China Swine Genetic Improvement Program, were ...

Measuring genetic connectedness between herds based on high density SNP markers.

Yi chuan = Hereditas, 2021
The accuracy of genetic evaluations in different herds is affected by the degree of genetic connectedness among herds. In this study, we explored the application of high density SNP markers in the assessment of genetic connectedness by comparing the genetic connectedness based on pedigree data and genomic data.

Genomic PCA – a proxy for monitoring genetic connectedness between flocks (case study on sheep)

2021
Fair comparison of predicted breeding values of animals belonging to different flocks is crucial for exploiting available genetic pool of breed. Low connectedness between flocks, as commonly present in many sheep breeds, represents unfavorable population structure for joint, i.e. across-flock, genetic evaluation.
