Predicting Chronicity in Children and Adolescents With Newly Diagnosed Immune Thrombocytopenia at the Timepoint of Diagnosis Using Machine Learning‐Based Approaches

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To identify predictors of chronic ITP (cITP) and to develop a model based on several machine learning (ML) methods to estimate the individual risk of chronicity at the timepoint of diagnosis. Methods We analyzed a longitudinal cohort of 944 children enrolled in the Intercontinental Cooperative immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) Study ...

Genetic and morphometric divergence of an invasive bird: the introduced house sparrow (Passer domesticus) in Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Introduced species are interesting systems for the study of contemporary evolution in new environments because of their spatial and temporal scales. For this study we had three aims: (i) to determine how genetic diversity and genetic differentiation of ...

Does hybridization between divergent progenitors drive whole-genome duplication? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This is the peer reviewed version of the following article: BUGGS, R. J. A., SOLTIS, P. S. and SOLTIS, D. E. (2009), Does hybridization between divergent progenitors drive whole-genome duplication?.

Prognostic Impact of Treatment Modalities, Including Targeted Compartmental Radio‐Immunotherapy, in a Cohort of Neuroblastoma Patients With CNS Metastases at Relapse

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Neuroblastoma (NB) with central nervous system (CNS) metastases is rare at diagnosis, but occurs more often during relapse/progression. Patients with CNS metastases face a dismal prognosis, with no standardized curative treatment available.

Metabolic rate and climatic fluctuations shape continental wide pattern of genetic divergence and biodiversity in fishes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Taxonomically exhaustive and continent wide patterns of genetic divergence within and between species have rarely been described and the underlying evolutionary causes shaping biodiversity distribution remain contentious.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Contrasting patterns of genetic divergence in two sympatric pseudo-metallophytes: Rumex acetosa L. and Commelina communis L.

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2012
Background Patterns of genetic divergence between populations of facultative metallophytes have been investigated extensively. However, most previous investigations have focused on a single plant species making it unclear if genetic divergence shows ...

Diffusion Approximations for Demographic Inference: DaDi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Models of demographic history (population sizes, migration rates, and divergence times) inferred from genetic data complement archeology and serve as null models in genome scans for selection. Most current inference methods are computationally limited to

Inferring Species Trees Directly from Biallelic Genetic Markers: Bypassing Gene Trees in a Full Coalescent Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The multi-species coalescent provides an elegant theoretical framework for estimating species trees and species demographics from genetic markers. Practical applications of the multi-species coalescent model are, however, limited by the need to integrate

Genetic divergence in Brachiaria species

open access: yesCropp Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2002
Three hundred and one accessions of six different Brachiaria species were analyzed, in which twentyfour morphologic characteristics were evaluated. Discriminant analysis based on principal components and Anderson’s discriminant analysis were conducted for the six species.
