Genetic diversity and genetic burden in humans

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2006
We discuss categories of genetic diversity in humans. Neutral diversity, population differences in frequencies of genetic markers that we think are invisible to natural selection, provides a passive record of population history but is otherwise of little interest in human biology.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Unraveling the meiotic puzzle: chromosome count, meiotic behaviour, and reproductive challenges in Phlomis cashmeriana Royle ex Benth. from the Kashmir Himalaya

open access: yesFrontiers in Conservation Science
Meiotic stability is crucial for maintaining reproductive success and genetic diversity in plants, especially in montane regions like the Himalaya, where fluctuating environmental conditions can disrupt normal chromosome behavior.

Genetic Selection and Conservation of Genetic Diversity* [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, 2012
ContentsFor 100s of years, livestock producers have employed various types of selection to alter livestock populations. Current selection strategies are little different, except our technologies for selection have become more powerful. Genetic resources at the breed level have been in and out of favour over time.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Untangling the reproductive puzzle: how floral traits, pollinator behavior, and breeding strategy shape reproductive success in the Himalayan medicinal herb Phytolacca acinosa Roxb

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Understanding the reproductive ecology of plants is crucial for devising strategies for their sustainable utilization and effective conservation.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Prokaryotic taxa play keystone roles in the soil microbiome associated with woody perennial plants in the genus Buxus

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
The microbiome associated with ornamental plants has largely been neglected, despite its potential for impacting plant health. This work characterized the composition, diversity, and microbial co‐associations in the soil microbiome associated with ...
