Consultation on fish genetic resources [PDF]

open access: yes
Naturally occurring fish genetic resources are of great importance for fisheries and aquaculture. Fish farmers and fishers face a future in which the diversity of their basic resources is under threat and the genetic composition of these resources will ...

CemOrange2 fusions facilitate multifluorophore subcellular imaging in C. elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Due to its ease of genetic manipulation and transparency, Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) has become a preferred model system to study gene function by microscopy.

Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

NADH-GOGAT Overexpression Does Not Improve Maize (Zea mays L.) Performance Even When Pyramiding with NAD-IDH, GDH and GS

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Maize plants overexpressing NADH-GOGAT were produced in order to determine if boosting 2-Oxoglurate production used as a carbon skeleton for the biosynthesis of amino acids will improve plant biomass and kernel production.

Minimisation of energy consumption variance for multi-process manufacturing lines through genetic algorithm manipulation of production schedule [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Typical manufacturing scheduling algorithms do not consider the energy consumption of each job, or its variance, when they generate a production schedule.

Infection of Gammarus duebeni populations by two vertically transmitted microsporidia; parasite detection and discrimination by PCR–RFLP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We screened a population of the brackish water crustacean Gammarus duebeni from the Isle of Cumbrae for the presence of vertically transmitted microsporidia.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Selection of experimental animals and modeling methods in developmental dysplasia of the hip research

open access: yesEFORT Open Reviews
Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common neonatal musculoskeletal condition characterized by hip instability and inadequate acetabular coverage. If untreated, it can lead to osteoarthritis, chronic pain, and eventual hip replacement.
