Estimation of quantitative genetic parameters [PDF]
This paper gives a short review of the development of genetic parameter estimation over the last 40 years. The need to analyse genetic processes in both animal selection experiments and animal breeding improvement programmes motivated the majority of this work.

Genetic parameters for social effects on survival in cannibalistic layers: Combining survival analysis and a linear animal model [PDF]
Background Mortality due to cannibalism in laying hens is a difficult trait to improve genetically, because censoring is high (animals still alive at the end of the testing period) and it may depend on both the individual itself and the behaviour of its ...

Genetic and phenotypic trends for growth traits of buffaloes in Brazil
The objectives this paper were to estimate genetic parameters and genetic and phenotypic trends of birth weight (BWT) and weights adjusted to 205 (WT205), 365 (WT365) and 550 (P550) days of age of beef buffaloes born from 1985 to 2003 in Brazil.

Genetic trends of Mexican zebu cattle populations
In Mexico, the genetic evaluations in Zebu breeds began in 2011 and there are no studies about the genetic progress achieved. Thus, this research aimed to quantify and analyse the genetic progress for growth traits in the Mexican Zebu beef cattle ...

Cosmological Parameter Estimation with Genetic Algorithms
Genetic algorithms are a powerful tool in optimization for single and multimodal functions. This paper provides an overview of their fundamentals with some analytical examples. In addition, we explore how they can be used as a parameter estimation tool in cosmological models to maximize the likelihood function, complementing the analysis with the ...

Genetic parameters for milk somatic cell score and relationships with production traits in primiparous dairy sheep [PDF]
A total of 13,066 first-lactation test-day records of 2,277 Valle del Belice ewes from 17 flocks were used to estimate genetic parameters for somatic cell scores (SCS) and milk production traits, using a repeatability test-day animal model.

Estimating quantitative genetic parameters in wild populations:A comparison of pedigree and genomic approaches [PDF]
The estimation of quantitative genetic parameters in wild populations is generally limited by the accuracy and completeness of the available pedigree information. Using relatedness at genome-wide markers can potentially remove this limitation and lead to

GENETIC CONTRIBUTION OF RAM ON LITTER SIZE IN ŠUMAVA SHEEP [PDF]
The objective of the present study was to quantify the service sire effect in terms of (co) variance components of born and weaned lambs number and to propose models for the potential inclusion of this effect in the linear equations for breeding value ...

Genetic parameters for somatic cell score according to udder infection status in Valle del Belice dairy sheep and impact of imperfect diagnosis of infection [PDF]
Background Somatic cell score (SCS) has been promoted as a selection criterion to improve mastitis resistance. However, SCS from healthy and infected animals may be considered as separate traits.
