Genetic parameters of eventing horse competition in France [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2001
Genetic parameters of eventing horse competitions were estimated. About 13 000 horses, 30 000 annual results during 17 years and 110 000 starts in eventing competitions during 8 years were recorded. The measures of performance were logarithmic transformations of annual earnings, annual earnings per start, and annual earnings per place, and underlying ...

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

The effects of population size on genetic parameters and mating system of sandalwood in Gunung Sewu, Indonesia

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Biotechnology, 2015
We combined feld observations with isoenzyme analysis to compare population demographic and its effects on genetic diversity and mating systems, among six populations of sandalwood in Gunung Sewu, Indonesia, during March to August 2015.

Genetic Parameters of Bovine Serum Immunoglobulins

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1985
Radial immunodiffusion techniques were used to determine serum concentrations of immunoglobulins G1, G2, M, and A in 1,293 daughters of 282 Holstein-Friesian sires from 31 herds in southwestern Ontario, Canada. Mean serum immunoglobulin concentrations (mg/100 ml) were 2,163, 2,409, 531, and 107 for immunoglobulins G1, G2, M, and A, respectively.

On the estimation of genetic parameters via variance components [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 1983
Summary Variance components have been estimated by three methods using two different but overlapping data sets from a dairy cattle breeding scheme. The methods were H method III, MINQUE and a new method proposed by H in 1980. Two different statistical models of grouping sires were considered.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Estimates of genetic parameters of wood traits for sawn timber production in Eucalyptus grandis

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2004
In this study, the breeding perspectives of 41 open-pollinated progenies of Eucalyptus grandis were evaluated based on their wood traits. The progenies were distributed in two experiments in a randomized complete block design, with three replicates and ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Multi-objective optimization of PID controller parameters using genetic algorithm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller is one of the most popular controllers applied in industries. However, despite the simplicity in its structure, the PID parameter tuning for high-order, unstable and complex plants is difficult.
